Ana Laura CalderónAna Laura CalderónAna Laura Calderón is a Mexican producer, director, screenwriter and editor graduated from EICTV, Cuba. In 2007, she creates ALAS OCULTAS, a boutique production company, based in Mexico City, to produce her own projects.
Since its creation, ALAS OCULTAS has produced feature and short films that have won awards at important festivals around the world. We primarily tell stories with female protagonists who overcome adversity to find more meaning or happiness in their lives. We also specialize in productions for children.
Among our productions is the documentary feature film “THE ISLAND OF YOUTH”, official selection at Morelia, DocsBarcelona, Festival de la Memoria, DOCSDF, and Trieste, and Best Documentary at the Riviera Maya Festival.
We have produced the short films “ALWAYS ON MY MIND”, “EMOTIONS”, “TERRANOVA”, and “UNDER THE SAME SKY”, the latter with the support of Procine, Samba Filmworks and Terminal.
We are the co-producer of the Ecuadorian documentary “Without Fear of Falling” which obtained the support of Ibermedia, and Associate Producer of the documentary series “Abuelita’s Kitchen”.
We have sponsored events such as MICE Cuba and MICE Valencia (International Educational Film Exhibition), Mexican Film Exhibition in Rome, BJX Bajío Film Festival and the Mexico cycle in the Look of Mexican Filmmakers at the Mexican American Cultural Center Emma S. Barrientos in Austin, Texas.
Ana Laura Calderón is producer and director of the multi-award-winning film “MEZQUITE´S HEART”, licensed by HBO MAX, a film that the New York Times describes as a moving coming-of-age story. MEZQUITE premiered at the 43rd Sao Paulo Film Festival (Brazil) in October 2019. Since then it has been an official selection at numerous festivals around the world, where it has won awards: Cinequest Film & VR Festival (California); 27th San Diego Latino Film Festival. She is currently in the editing process of her most recent feature film “FOREVER MOM” starring Iran Castillo, Mauricio Isaac, Amaia Aliaga Calderón, Luna Montañez, Cristina Michaus and Juan Pablo de Santiago. This film tells the story of Leonora, a mother and professional, who flees overwhelmed during her daughter’s birthday. Mario faces upbringing. She finds refuge with a peasant woman who inspires her to reconcile with her motherhood.
Together, Mario and her, discover that being parents is their biggest challenge. She is also developing “SCARS ON JUPITER”, starring María Aura , Tizoc Arroyo, Luis Lesher and Marco Treviño. This film tells the story of Elisa and Arturo, who are a sister and brother who must meet again after the death of their mother, and make decisions regarding the inheritance and the course of their lives. Elisa overwhelmed by the by the emotions that this encounter provokes, finds herself at a crossroads. What are you willing to give up? to the forbidden love that you have always wanted? Or the security of a future next to the one who loves you? She is producing both films with Gabriela Gavica from Mandarina Cine.
Ana Laura also produced “CHILANGOLANDIA”, a film nominated for 7 CANACINE awards in 2021.
She was Associate Producer of the Colombian documentary “MATIAS TREE” in 2022.
She was also the producer of her first fiction film as a director, “DRAWING THE SKY”, released in 2018 by VIDEOCINE (Mexico) and PANTELION (United States).

Actualmente se encuentra en el proceso de edición de su más reciente largometraje “EN EL FONDO ESTÁ MAMÁ” protagonizado por Irán Castillo, Mauricio Isaac, Amaia Aliaga Calderón, Luna Montañez, Cristina Michaus y Juan Pablo de Santiago. Esta película habla de Leonora, madre y profesionista, huye abrumada durante el cumpleaños de su hija. Mario enfrenta la crianza. Leonora encuentra refugio con una campesina que la inspira a reconciliarse con su maternidad. Juntos, Mario y ella, descubren que ser padres es su mayor desafío.
También se encuentra desarrollando “CICATRICES EN JÚPITER”, protagonizada por María Aura , Tizoc Arroyo, Luis Lesher y Marco Treviño. Esta cinta cuenta la historia de Elisa y Arturo, que son dos hermanos que deben reencontrarse después de la muerte de su madre y tomar decisiones con respecto a la herencia y al curso de sus vidas. Elisa, sobrepasada por las emociones que provoca este encuentro, se ve en una encrucijada ¿A qué estás dispuesto a renunciar? ¿Al amor prohibido que siempre has deseado? ¿O a la seguridad de un futuro al lado de quien te ama? Ambas películas las produce junto con Gabriela Gavica de Mandarina Cine.
